Grant Woods

Grant woods is situated north of Grayslake out Monaville Road between Rte 59 and Fairfield Rd. It was easy to find and when I entered the park, the small lake with picnic tables was very welcoming. 

I can't wait to come back in the summer for picnics after work!

Along with the lakes, it has wetlands, marsh, and trails through the forest. It's a quiet place to relax. Since it's split by Monaville road, it has two loops you can walk easily. I opted for the small loop on the south end of the preserve. the trail was gravel and easy to walk and only took me a half hour. 


There were all sorts of birds there today. They are definitely back. At one point in my walk I came through a spot in the trees where they were all gathering. They were chattering excitedly to one another like they were catching up after a long winter (very noisy). Check out the sounds of spring in the short clip I made.

I really enjoyed this preserve. It will be good to come to when it's warmer and everything is green.
